What does a Social Media Strategy mean and why is it essential?

when it comes to social media strategy, you’ve got to think about what you’re doing before you do it

Today, most businesses have a social media presence. And yet, many of them hardly find any success from their social media marketing efforts. A major factor that decides the success or failure of your marketing efforts on social media can be the Social Media Strategy.

A social media strategy is a plan created keeping in mind the objective of marketing the business on the platforms.

An effective social media strategy should answer the following questions:

  • What is the purpose of being on social media?
  • Who are we trying to reach through our social media platforms?
  • Which platforms must we use to achieve our objectives?
  • What is our tone of voice?
  • What type of content should we share on these platforms?
  • How often should we share it?
  • When should we share it?
  • How do we measure success?

Spending time thinking about these questions and answering them honestly will help you achieve your social media marketing goals.

According to a survey by Global Web Index, internet users (globally) are now spending an average of 2 hours and 22 minutes per day on social networking and messaging platforms. This can also mean that among the vast number of brands and posts out there your post has to be visible to your target customer at the exact time that they are scrolling through their posts! It’s not impossible.

At Meantime Communications we work with our clients to drill down to the brand messaging to understand exactly what we are saying, why we are saying it and to whom we are saying it. With equal gusto we Measure! Measure! Measure! to know if our message has been heard.

Apart from the questions listed above do you think there are any more essential ones that must absolutely be included in a strategy? We would like to hear about it.
